In 2007, Congress passed the energy Title III of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 placed stringent efficiency requirements on ordinary incandescent bulbs in an attempt to phase them out beginning in 2012 and have them completely gone by 2014 in there effort to get you more “energy efficient”. As is normal they did not consider the downside to this action.
Consider the following;
Depending on rules and requirements from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as Florescent and Compact Florescent bulbs all contain “mercury” and they may be dangerous or even hazardous if broken, as mercury exposure is a known health hazard. Procedures for cleanup of a broken bulb are posted at this EPA link.
People who suffer from epilepsy may be affected by the “flicker” and color change that is frequent with flourscent lighting. The term “Photo-sensitivity” can be viewed at the epilepsy foundation website. Those who suffer from photosensitive migraines may also be affected.
Most florescent light bulbs do not work well (slow or no start) in cool/cold temperatures. Example they do not work well to heat a small space ie pump house, baby chick, or your outdoor pets lodging. The average bulb will not work on a dimmer, and are subject to vibration failure if used in a ceiling fan for example. Some reports of shorter lifespan have been reported with numerous on/off cycles.
Because of the “Energy Bill” General Electric recently announced the closing of there plant in in Winchester, Virginia, that employed 200 people and the last major incandescent manufacturing plant in the United States. This comes after closing plants in Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, and Mississauga-based GE Canada.
Legislation on this matter for 2011 is listed below.
Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act (Introduced 3/1/2011)[H.R.849.IH]
Better Use of Light Bulbs Act (Introduced 1/5/2011)[H.R.91.IH]
Better Use of Light Bulbs Act (Introduced2/17/2011)[S.395.IS]
Better Use of Light Bulbs Act (Introduced 7/6/2011)[H.R.2417.IH]
Note: As of 11/24/2011 the latest action was on H.R.2417.
Point to Ponder. Have you looked into the “rare earth” subject to see how it will affect manufacturing of “Energy saving” lights in the U.S.?

As most of you heard the powers that be signed a bill allowing for “OFF SHORE” drilling. What they failed to say was that the bill allowed drilling of the coast OVER 50 MILES from shore. Why does that mater.
1. The water out there is DEEP!! 5,000 ft plus in places.
2. It will take YEARS to get that oil (which does exist) to our refineries.
3. IT costs MONEY to drill that deep.
4. They did NOT ALLOW drilling within the 50 miles, why, your guess is as good as mine, seen as how there are wells that are caped, not producing, which if allowed could have that oil to our refineres in MONTHS! Even the caped wells are not allowed to go to production!!
5. Most of the buzz has been on or about the north slope (YEARS AWAY on a good day).
6. Seems to me we need to solve the problem NOT make it worse, Just my view!
