The Department of Energy (DOE) recently updated the requirements for energy efficiency in new Federal low-rise residential buildings (10 CFR 435, Subpart A: Energy Efficiency Standards for New Federal Low-Rise Residential Buildings). A new final rule was issued on August 10, 2011 and becomes effective on October 11, 2011. The new rulemaking updates the baseline standard in 10 CFR 435, Subpart A to the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Read the complete Federal Register notice

EPA Recognizes University of Central Florida as the winner of EPA’s 2011 Energy Star National Building Competition

(ATLANTA – Nov. 16, 2011) – At a ceremony today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regional Administrator Gwen Keyes Fleming recognized the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando, Fla. as the winner of EPA’s 2011 Energy Star National Building Competition: Battle of the Buildings. UCF’s winning building was a parking garage on the university’s main campus where energy use was decreased by 63.2 percent.

INTRODUCTION
In May 2011, EPA launched the ENERGY STAR National Building Competition: Battle of the Buildings. In its second year, the ”Biggest Loser”-style competition featured teams from 245 buildings across the country in a head-to-head battle to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. see full details at the links provided.
